Oxford History:
Oxford is one of the oldest towns in Maryland founded in 1683. It is also one of the most beautiful waterfront villages with a population of only 700. Walking down Morris Street in this picture perfect town, you are sure that Miss Marple or Jessica Fletcher will meet you at the corner. Its yacht building and crab and oyster industries are still in evidence as they were in the 1600’s; and its stately homes, estates, bed and breakfasts, waterfront parks and fabulous restaurants beckon the visitor. James Michener stayed here at the Robert Morris Inn while he wrote CHESAPEAKE. It was the setting for the film “Failure To Launch” (2005). Folks still take the ferry from Bellevue near St. Michaels to Oxford as they have since 1683. www.oxfordbellevueferry.com Maybe that is why I was led to this place and why I think it is a perfect place for a bookstore. I’ll post some photos of the new store soon on the web site.
